7 Reasons to Visit Kos

Spread the love

Greece is world renowned for its beautiful islands with their pristine sands, beautiful views and buzzing nightlife scene. With more than two hundred islands to choose from, it’s not an easy decision to pick just one island for your holiday destination. So why choose Kos over the more visited Crete, Mykonos or Rhodes? Here are seven reasons why you should consider Kos for your next holiday.

  1. A Cyclists Dream
Kos is completely flat, making it a great choice for cyclists. It takes just an hour to get from one end of the island to the other by car, so cycling is a great way to spend a day. Bike rentals are easy to find and there are loads of well-kept bike trails to choose from.
  2. History
If you want some downtime from the beach and other local excursions, Kos is a good choice for you. There is a town castle, an old tree that marks the spot where Hippocrates educated his students and there are some impressive ruins that date back to the third century B.C.
  3. Direct Flights
Unlike a lot of the other Greek islands, Kos is serviced by direct flights from cities all over Europe. Ryan Air and a bunch of other low cost carriers in Europe fly there direct from major European cities including Rome, Brussels and London. Kos is also a major ferry hub to connect with other Greek islands.
  4. Beaches
Kos has a variety of beaches to choose from. There is a great family-friendly beach just outside of town. Further afield are the more idyllic beaches such as Paradise Beach which is under an hour from Kos Town on the bus. For naturists, there’s a clothing optional beach that is situated not too far away from the main beach.
  5. Nightlife
As with most Greek Islands, Kos has a great nightlife. This is especially true during the high season when the bars and restaurants can get quite busy. Everyone here is up for a good time and the bars play cheesy chart music and girls dressed in short shorts attempt to lure the tourists in.
  6. Child Friendly
Kids will be kept more than entertained on the beaches all day but there’s more for kids in Kos in comparison to many of the other islands. Friends Junior  is a great spot to take the kids in the evening time. This play facility is fully supervised and they’ll watch your little ones while you enjoy the sunset in peace. The entrance price includes a balloon and a drink as well as access to the play area; the kids won’t want to leave.
  7. Great Value
A one bedroom apartment can be found for about fifty euro depending on facilities in Kos town. Breakfast is usually included in the price as is Wi-Fi. There are some great value restaurants around town too so it’s worth exploring and checking them out. Of course there are some luxury options to choose from too but if you’re budget conscious, have no fear as Kos will deliver a great affordable holiday.
