We all love our holidays, and many of us book months in advance. Many holidaymakers never think of booking their holidays at the last minute, which is a shame because there are several good reasons to do so.
Book now to avoid the school holidays
In most parts of the UK, the kids will be on holiday between the 13th and 21st of February. During those weeks, the price of flights and accommodation soars.
Booking to travel before those dates will save you a fortune. Avoiding going away during the school holidays will typically save you 28% on the cost of flights and accommodation.
Bag yourself a seasonal bargain
At this time of the year, the cost of holidays, to popular destinations like the Canary Islands, Morocco and Madeira, are also far lower than they are during the summer months.
If you like a bargain, now is definitely the time to travel. There are always great discounts available, after the Christmas period.
Lower prices at the resort
The savings do not stop there. Because there are fewer customers, bars, restaurants and shop owners get creative and put together great deals to tempt people through the door. This means that once you get to your resort, you will continue to pay less than you would at other times of the year.
In the Canary Islands, January is also the time when shops run their biggest sales, called Rebajas. Therefore, if shopping for a new wardrobe is on your travel itinerary January is a good time to visit Spain.
Avoid the crowds
When you bag yourself a last minute winter deal, you will not have to fight your way through the crowds to get a good spot on the beach. Fewer people travel in the winter, so resorts are nowhere near as busy as they are in the summer. This means that people have the time to look after you better, and there is a much more relaxed atmosphere.
It is exciting
Travelling last minute is also exciting. Because you are being more impulsive, the whole thing feels like a bit of an adventure.
When you book a winter break, you get beautiful weather, as well as all of the advantages mentioned above. In the summer, countries like Morocco, Madeira and the Canary Islands can get extremely hot.
Some people like it that way, but for others it is too warm. They end up staying inside during the heat of the day, so are not able to experience all of the activities that are on offer at their resort.
By travelling to these destinations in the winter, you get the best of both worlds. It is warm enough to sit on the beach for a few hours and top up your tan, but cool enough for you to enjoy other outdoor activities too.
For example, hiking, horse riding and cycling. In the summer months, it is too hot for most people to do these things, and stay comfortable.
So, if you have never booked ‘last minute’ we encourage you to make 2016 the year you do. We promise you won’t regret it.
