The Englishman’s Beach – Playa del Ingles in the winter

Spread the love

The very popular resort of Playa del Ingles is located on the Southern coast of Gran Canaria that is close to the other resort towns of Sonnenland and San Agustin. This means that there is no shortage of things to enjoy when you are staying at Playa del Ingles.

It is a popular resort at any time of the year, but especially in the winter so it stays far busier than many other parts of the island. The area is well known for being welcoming to gay tourists, which is part of the reason it is such a lively resort. Every May the resort holds the second biggest Gay Pride parade in Europe.

The resort definitely offers something for everyone. In the winter, it is a bit quieter and the majority of the tourists are older although during the school holidays it is also very popular with families looking for a cheap holiday for the kids.

Still a lively spot in the winter

Even in the winter, the resort is still a lively place. Most of the iconic bars stay open as normal during the winter, so if you like good nightlife this is definitely the winter destination for you. The best bars stay open just as late in the winter as they do in the summer.

Warm winter weather

Average temperatures in the mid twenties are the norm and sometimes it reaches 30C. This is warm enough for most people to spend most of the day on the beach, although the water can feel quite cold. Most hotels have an indoor pool and keep their outside pool open as well for those who want to use the sun loungers.

A perfect time to explore

Hire a car for a couple of days and get out of the resort to enjoy a taste of the real Spain. The west coast is particularly beautiful, very quiet and in the winter, there are virtually no tourists in this area. A trip like this provides the perfect chance to experience a little peace and quiet. There is virtually no traffic during the winter months, which is why it is the perfect time of the year to explore.

A great choice of food

If you fancy a traditional meal, the restaurants on Avenida de Tirjana are a good option. This makes a nice change from the “something and chips” meals you tend to be offered in the main resort.

Go all-inclusive

That said many of the all-inclusive hotels in Playa del Ingles offer a great choice of food. They serve most of the measl buffet style and cater for most tastes including vegetarians.

Enjoy the shopping

Regardless of what time of the year you visit the resort you will enjoy shopping. The Yumboo Cenrtum is the most popular shopping centre, but the CC Tropical, High Chaperral and Anexo are great too.

On the rare occasion that it rains these shopping centres get very busy, but it is still a good alternative to the beach on days like that. The San Fernando market is a great option regardless of the weather, but it is a bit out of the way, so find out the time of the buses.

So, why not grab yourself a bargain this winter and visit the Playa del Ingles.
