Five Things to Get Up to During Your Trip to El Gouna

Spread the love

If you are heading to Red Sea destination El Gouna in the coming months, you will probably be searching for some clues for what to actually do when you arrive. This Egyptian resort has a lot going for it, and you probably already know that it is quite unique amongst the rest due to being built upon a sequence of islands that are connected by bridges and canals. It’s almost an Arabian Venice, which means that a holiday there can be pretty special.

Therefore you should have no problem finding activities to keep you occupied during your trip, but just to put your mind at ease, here are five ideas to get you started when you arrive…

Hire a gondola

You can maximise the Venetian feel by hiring a gondola to explore the beautiful El Gouna canals. It is especially delightful at night when the waterways glow a bright shade of turquoise. This could be the perfect romantic outing for you and your partner, but would also make an equally enjoyable activity if you are travelling with a group of friends. Remember to bring a camera along to photograph all of the quaint stone bridges.

Head to the beach

Like many beach resorts, El Gouna does not disappoint when it comes to sunshine and surf. In the area you can find everything from quiet and secluded beaches to those that are all about the barbecues on the sand after dark. Pack your swimming gear and you will be able to make the most of plenty of water sports, such as windsurfing and kitesurfing.

Explore under the sea

It’s well worth taking the time to take a dip under the waves too, but this is best organised with a licensed provider. The Red Sea is well known for its great diving sites including shipwrecks, so book a lesson or a course with a qualified teacher who can show you the ropes safely. Of course you could start out with a spot of snorkelling to get you in the mood for seeing what the sea life really has to offer in the area.

Hit the town

The days in El Gouna are fun, but the nights can be even better. There plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars and nightclubs to keep you occupied; the open air Palladium is a favourite with many. Also local is a casino which could be perfect for you if you want to throw caution to the wind with your travel money! Of course, you could stop by for a short amount of time if you want to make your cash last until you board your flight home…

Catch an event

There are some events worth catching throughout the week in El Gouna. Tamr Henna Square features oriental entertainment on Sunday and Thursday evenings, and Marina Street Festival takes the limelight on Mondays and Fridays. Your hotel might provide a shuttle bus to the marina, so it should be easy enough for you to return home at the end of the event.
