For decades, Tenerife had a reputation as a bit of a bucket and spade place. It was somewhere to go if you were on a tight budget, but over the years, it has evolved and now offers a real mix of accommodation including luxury hotels and resorts.
Today, you will find excellent luxury hotels as well as more traditional holiday accommodation. This is our guide to the best parts of Tenerife for luxury travellers.
Without a doubt if you want pampering the Costa Adeje, on the South West coast of Tenerife, is where you want to go. It is the new centre of the island’s luxury travel industry.
The majority of the luxury hotels are located close to the beach. There is a long traditional promenade right along the beach, which is great for an evening stroll. Close to the town are the sandy beaches of La Troya, Pinta, Torviscas, Fañabé and del Duque.
There are dozens of five star hotels and resorts to choose from including several spa hotels. Amongst the best are the GF Costa Adeje Gran Hotel, Vincci La Plantacion Del Sur Hotel and the Sheraton La Caleta Resort & Spa. They all offer top class accommodation at a great price.
Our last minute deals to Costa Adeje are a great way for you to experience and enjoy the luxury hotels of the resort. Booking a last minute deal cuts down on choice, but it can save you a lot of money too. Many of the luxury hotels fill up slower, so there are actually quite a lot of last minute deals for this type of accommodation available.
Playa De Las Americas
Playa De Las Americas is located next to Costa Adeje. This resort actually has the longest tradition of providing luxury accommodation. It is a purpose built resort that was mostly built in the 1960s.
The luxury hotels in this resort offer old school luxury and pampering, but most of the hotels and spas have been upgraded in the past decade. This has helped them to keep pace with the tastes of modern travellers.
This resort has a well-developed nightlife scene and several popular daytime attractions. The beach is unusual in that it is covered with dark sand that was imported from Africa.
If you enjoy good food, followed by clubbing you will like Playa de Las Americas. The hotels and some of the bigger restaurants still offer a fine dining experience.
Much of the nightlife takes place along the busy Veronica’s Strip and the popular Patch area. There are also several clubs at the Starco Commercial Centre.
Amongst the best luxury hotels are the Mediterranean Palace and Europe Villa Cortes. Both are popular, so you need to book early.
Santa Cruz De Tenerife
Our last luxury Tenerife destination is Santa Cruz De Tenerife, which is the joint capital of the island. If you want to experience the real Tenerife this is the destination for you. It is still very much a Spanish city, with plenty of traditional festivals and tourist destinations.
There is a huge range of accommodation available including some luxury accommodation. The Iberostar Grand Hotel Mencey is a great example of a modern luxury hotel in this city location.
As you can see, when it comes to luxury travel Tenerife offers plenty of choice. Many of the new hotels on the island are being built for this market, so Tenerife can only become a better destination for luxury travellers.
