The Many Faces of Sharm el Sheikh

Spread the love

The Egyptian resort of Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt is extremely popular with Europeans and Russians. Many people return to the resort year after year. The majority do the same thing every year. They lie on the beach during the day and go out eating and dancing every night.

Sharm has an arid climate, so regardless of when you go you are almost guaranteed sunshine. If a beach holiday is what you are looking for Sharm el Sheikh is great option, but there is far more to the resort than the beach. Rather than just write a resort report that tells you all about the usual attractions we have put together one about the alternative experiences that you can enjoy while staying in the area.

Live in the desert

Sharm el Sheikh sits on the edge of the Sinai desert, and there are plenty of chances for you to explore this amazing environment. For the more adventurous amongst you there is the chance to spend a night sleeping under the stars in the desert.

On most of the trips, you get to visit the Coloured Canyon. It is also possible to visit Mount Sinai on the longer trips.

Desert day trips

If you do not want to spend a night in the desert there are plenty of day trips available. There is the option to enjoy guided quad bike or buggy tours.

You can also see the Coloured Canyon on a day trip. It is a 2.5-hour journey from Sharm el Sheik. If you like riding, one of the best ways to see the desert is on horseback. For the more adventurous, a camel trip is a great option.

A Bedouin trip

Forty years ago, when the area began to be developed it was home to around 100 Bedouins. Today, many of them, and their descendants, still live in the area. They offer tourists the chance to learn more about the Bedouin way of life by spending the day in the desert with them. Included in the trip is a beautiful Bedouin meal.

A carpet of stars

If you like astrology, you will love stargazing. Once you get away from the bright lights of Sharm el Sheik, there is zero light pollution. The climate means that you get a clear view of the carpet of stars practically every night.

Even if you are not that interested in astrology, the sight is still breathtaking. It is well worth taking a night off from partying to experience.

Ghibli Raceway

Ghibli raceway is a world class go kart track. You can have a great time driving around the track yourself, but if you are lucky, you will be there on race day. International go-kart events are held here on a regular basis.

A taste of real Egyptian food

One of the things many people like about the resort is that they can enjoy the food they are used to at home. All of the big fast food chains have branches in the resort, but there is also still the chance to enjoy real Egyptian food. You just need to know where to look.

For those on a budget El Masrien in the Old Market is a great option. This restaurant offers mainly Egyptian barbecue dishes. The Blue Fountain in Naama Bay is popular with both locals and visitors. It is British owned, but serves an international menu including many Egyptian favourites.
