Planning a family holiday in Tenerife

Spread the love

Tenerife is a fantastic island with plenty of sun year round. Over the years it has built up a reputation for being a fantastic destination for older couples. It all started when UK pensioners booked themselves into inexpensive hotels and B&Bs for three or four months in the winter. People began to think of it as a destination for older people forgetting that the island has a hell of a lot to offer younger people and families.

These days, the island is once again playing host to families and their numbers are growing. Today, there are plenty of all inclusive family holidays to Costa Adeje and other Tenerife resorts available. If you have never been to the island before here are some suggestions to help you and your family to get the most out of their holiday.

Fun on the beach

As you would expect from an island there are plenty of beaches. There is something for everyone. The majority of beaches offer some sort of water sports, which is ideal for those with children. Normally there is a bar and a restaurant to take the strain out of feeding the family while you are out.

Fun parks

The island has several water parks and theme parks. Siam Park, near Costa Adeje is one the best. It truly is a world-class theme park.

Aqualand is a very popular water park.

If you want to get out of the sun for a couple of hours Megabowl Tenerife is an ideal destination. It is a top class bowling alley, and it is far cheaper to take your children bowling than it is in the UK.

Boat charters and submarine safaris

There are all kinds of boats available for either private hire or charter. The Must Cat Catarmaran sails out of Las Galletas, and you can charter a range of boats from all parts of the island.

A favourite with most people is the famous yellow submarine which is located near Amarilla Golf. The submarine is air conditioned, and you get your own porthole to watch the sea life floating by.

Spectacular animal shows

If you like wildlife Tenerife has got a lot to offer. Jungle Park at Las Aguilas is a fantastic day out. There is a free bus service that picks people up from the main resorts. You can check availability for your resort on the park’s website.

Loro Parque in Puerto de la Cruz is another great place to see animals. It has a fantastic marine tunnel, a huge collection of parrots and other birds that put on a fantastic show every day as well as many other animals and attractions.

Book in advance

During the children’s summer holidays, things get busy, so it is wise to book in advance when you can. Often doing so will also save you money as will buying group tickets. Also look for discount vouchers offered when you collect the labels off of popular foods and drinks. Someone at your resort can translate these offers for you and explain what you need to do to take advantage of them.
