Tenerife is one of the most culturally diverse islands in the Canaries, so it’s no wonder that it hosts hundreds of events, festivals and shows each year. If you’re considering going on a last minute break over the next couple of weeks, then here are just three reasons why Tenerife should be top of your list.
- You can catch the end of the PWA World Cup
If you’re a sporting enthusiast, then where better to head for some rest and relaxation than the sunny shores of Tenerife, which just happen to be the finishing point for the competitors in this year’s PWA World Cup. This competition, held by the Professional Windsurfer’s Association, is a chance for the very best to pit their skills of harnessing the elements against one another.
From 1st to the 7th August, you can watch as the very best windsurfers in the world battle it out at La Playa del Cabezo, in El Medano, which is a notorious area for its natural strong winds and heavy wave conditions – it’s sure to be an exciting display!
- You can be inspired by the stars
Tenerife may be known for its exuberant nightlife and fantastic bar and restaurant scene, but for those that prefer things a little more tranquil, you’ll find the star-gazing here to be unmatched by any other island in the area. You can go on the ultimate stargazing experience this August, starting with collection right from your hotel, and a journey through the stunning Canarian pine forests.
Your lesson in astronomy will begin at the National Parque of Roque de Garcia, where your expert guide will walk you through the routes of the skies, with professional telescopes and all the myths and legends that surround the constellations. To celebrate you being proficient stargazers, there will even be champagne and snacks, and you’ll be able to take home your perfectly taken photographs as souvenirs.
- You can enjoy the sights and sounds of Sansofe
If you’re a music lover, then you’ll feel right at home visiting Tenerife between 20th and 27th August, when Sansofe is in town. This annual summer programme is always eagerly anticipated by tourists and locals alike, as the streets in El Medano are packed with concerts, shows and festive activities that will get your cultural juices flowing and your heart racing with excitement.
Whether you just want to lay in the sun with a picnic and enjoy the open air cinema, or exercise your competitive side in one of the many sporting events, there’s something for everyone at Sansofe. If you’re more of a culture-vulture though, you might prefer the African dance show and theatre performances, while the kids can busy themselves at the children’s workshops and foam party!
