One of the best things about working in the travel industry is that it is always changing. There is always something new and exciting going on and it looks like 2015 will be no different.
In 2015 holiday travel looks set to get even more interesting and exciting. Read on to find out about some of the 2015 travel trends that have already caught our eye.
A posh-tel is not necessarily what you think it is. It is a posh hostel rather than a super luxurious hotel.
In the past, hostels were basic to say the least. Most hostels literally just offered a bed and maybe a breakfast room. They tended to be a bit dull, boring and were often shabby, but that is changing in 2015.
Existing hostels like the Youth Hostel Association are refurbishing their properties and other providers are choosing to join the market at the top end. Examples include Generator Hostels and Safe Stay who both offer hostel accommodation with a touch of class. The decor at both chains is fresh and modern with an eccentric twist.
In hostels dorm living and bunk beds are still the norm, but at YHA York they now offer newlyweds a bridal suite complete with a four-poster bed. Safeway’s bunk beds have a curtain and a reading light for added privacy.
Living like a Local
If you really want to experience a city or place, staying with a local family is definitely the way to go and sites like airbnb.com have made it easy to do. At the time of writing, they have hosts in 190 countries who offer visitors a range of accommodation in everything from a flat to an igloo. Travelling in this way really does give you the chance to experience another way of life.
Smart phone Travel apps
Travel apps are amazing. You can use them to do everything from book your hotel to find the best ice cream within walking distance of a particular tourist sight.
New ones are coming to market all the time and most of them are free, so loading your smart phone with travel apps should definitely be on your to do list.
Having maps for the city you are visiting loaded onto your phone along with public transport apps will make finding your way around so much easier. We also recommend adding an attractions app and some sort of translator if you are travelling abroad.
The fact that more people are mindful of their health is reflected in the rising popularity of health related breaks. Spa breaks are still popular, but people are looking for more than massages and Jacuzzi bubbles.
Yoga and wellness retreats are very much on the rise in 2015. The chance to eat healthily, learn new yoga techniques and truly rest the mind, body and soul is attracting a lot of people to this type of holiday.
The last trend is hotel technology. Hotels are pushing the technology envelope and finding new ways to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
Increasingly hotels are offering their guests the chance to book in and open their room using their smartphone. Some hotels are also giving guests the chance to pre-order meals from their smartphones, so guests can come back to the hotel after a day out and enjoy their dinner more or less immediately.
These are our favourite trends, but we are sure there will be more travel innovations to come in 2015.
